Posted on 16 Jan 2012 in D.I.Y Website Help | 0 comments

Have you ever wondered how to extract, or “pull” the thumbnail from a YouTube video for use on a website, or an email? This is a very simple task.

In order to achieve this, you will need the id of the video. To find the ID of a given video, observe the following link:

The green highlighted string is the YouTube video ID.

Once you have the YouTube ID, we may proceed.

Below you will see how to view the thumbnail using a simple YouTube link. The format is as follows

http://img.youtube.com/vi/video-id/0.jpg (Pulls main large image)
http://img.youtube.com/vi/video-id/1.jpg (Pulls 1st thumbnail)
http://img.youtube.com/vi/video-id/2.jpg (Pulls 2nd thumbnail)
http://img.youtube.com/vi/video-id/3.jpg (Pulls 3rd thumbnail)

Examples:

Using the ID from the above link. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25JTbZS9nPk )
